Annual Underbody Inspection & Maintenance
Preservation is not a one-off. A brief annual check keeps the protection topped up and the cavities sound – catching small things before they become problems, so the work you have already invested in keeps paying off.
An annual underbody inspection keeps a preserved car preserved. We check the coatings and high-wear areas, top up protection and cavity wax where it has worn, and confirm the underside is still sound. These regular checks keep the underside protected – and they are far cheaper than letting the protection lapse and starting the whole programme again.
Why protection needs maintaining
A properly cleaned and protected underside does the hard work for you – but no protection system is permanent. Coatings wear thin in the high-traffic areas behind the wheels, cavity wax is slowly displaced through wet winters, and any car that is actually driven picks up fresh road salt and contamination. Left unchecked for years, even good protection eventually thins out and lets corrosion back in.
An annual visit stays ahead of that. It is preventative by design: small top-ups and checks each year, rather than an expensive rescue once the rust has returned.

What the annual check covers
Inspect. The protected underside, high-wear areas and cavities are checked for any sign of wear, damage or corrosion starting to return.
Top up. Protection and cavity wax are reapplied where they have worn, concentrating on the areas that take the most punishment.
Confirm. We record the condition and confirm the protection is still doing its job, and flag anything that needs attention.

Keeping protection in good condition
How long protection lasts depends on the system. The clear Bilt Hamber coating typically lasts around twenty-four months, while Dinitrol and premium ceramic systems can last up to seven years, extending to ten years with annual maintenance. Bi-annual preservation inspections keep it performing. The annual visit is not an upsell – it is the mechanism that keeps your protection working as it should.
Common questions
What does an annual underbody inspection involve?
A brief, focused check of the protected underside: we inspect the coatings and high-wear areas, check the cavities, top up protection where it has worn, and confirm everything is still doing its job. It is preventative maintenance – catching small things before they become problems, rather than waiting for corrosion to reappear.
Why does a preserved car still need inspecting?
Because protection is not permanent. Coatings wear in high-traffic areas, cavity wax is gradually displaced through wet winters, and a car that is driven will always pick up new contamination. A short annual check keeps the protection topped up and the underside sound, which is far cheaper and easier than letting it lapse and starting again.
Will I need the whole car re-blasted each time?
Rarely. Once an underside has been properly cleaned and protected, full reblasting is seldom needed unless the car has been used through several wet winters without maintenance. The annual visit is about topping up and checking, not redoing the work – which is exactly why keeping up with it pays off.
