Performance Car Underbody Preservation
Modern performance and prestige cars hide their underbody behind undertrays and aero panels – and behind them, road salt and brake dust go to work. We get proper access, clean without water or abrasion, and protect to a standard that holds up to the next enthusiast buyer.

Performance car underbody preservation is aimed at modern high-value cars – the kind where undertrays, diffusers and aero panels hide the metal and trap salt and brake dust against it. We remove what is needed for access, dry ice clean the underside, and apply durable, ceramic-grade protection matched to how the car is driven – then document it for resale. For the broader programme, see underbody preservation.
The underbody you cannot see
On a modern performance or prestige car, most of the underside is sealed behind undertrays and aero panels. It looks tidy from below because you are looking at plastic, not metal. Behind those panels, road salt, moisture and brake dust collect and sit against the structure, suspension and fasteners – exactly where you never look and rarely clean.
Proper preservation means getting behind the panels. We remove what is needed for genuine access, clean and protect the metal those panels cover, and refit everything correctly. It is more involved than a wash-bay clean, and it is the only way to actually protect a modern car's underbody rather than its plastics.
Modern materials, modern corrosion
Performance cars are built from aluminium, composites and steel in close contact, with high-output brakes throwing corrosive dust and heat into the bargain. That mix brings galvanic and contact corrosion in places traditional cars never had it, and aggressive brake dust that etches into finishes if it is left. Dry ice lifts all of it without adding water or abrasion to an already complex assembly.
- Behind undertrays and diffusers – salt and damp trapped against the structure.
- Suspension, subframes and arms – contamination and corrosion around critical components.
- Brake and hub areas – aggressive, baked-on brake dust lifted without abrasion.
- Fasteners and dissimilar metals – the contact points where modern corrosion starts.
Performance cars through the workshop
Real performance and prestige cars on the ramp – a Ferrari F355 and a Porsche 964 taken through the same process. Arches, suspension and underbody dry ice cleaned back to honest metal, with no water and no abrasion. Same component, before and after.

Protection matched to how you drive
A garaged weekend car, a car used hard on track and a car that sees year-round road salt all need different protection. We specify accordingly – a premium clear or black coating on the underside, ceramic engine bay protection, and cavity wax in the closed sections – rather than applying a single product to every car. Any corrosion found behind the panels is treated before protection goes on.
Documentation that holds its value
For a modern performance car, the underside and the paperwork sell the car. We photograph and record the work through every stage so you have a documented, protected underbody to show the next enthusiast buyer. It is the difference between an unknown underside and a clear, evidenced record of care – and it shows in the price.
We work with performance car owners from London and from across the UK – vehicles are treated at our Oxfordshire workshop, with collection and delivery by arrangement.
Common questions
Do the undertrays and aero panels need to come off?
Usually, yes. Modern performance and prestige cars hide much of the underbody behind undertrays, diffusers and aero panels. Those panels also trap road salt, moisture and brake dust against the metal behind them. We remove what is needed for proper access, clean and protect the areas they cover, and refit everything so the car leaves exactly as it should.
My car is barely used in winter – does it still need this?
Often the lightly used cars are the ones quietly corroding. A car left standing after a few salty miles holds that salt against cold metal for months. And modern alloy, composite and dissimilar-metal assemblies bring their own corrosion paths. A clean, protected underside removes the salt and contamination and seals the metal so storage does not work against you.
What protection suits a modern performance car?
It depends on how the car is used, but performance and prestige cars often suit a more durable specification – a premium clear or black coating on the underside, ceramic protection in the engine bay, and cavity wax in the closed sections. We match the system to the car and how you drive it rather than applying one product to everything.
Will this help when I sell to another enthusiast?
Significantly. Enthusiast buyers of performance and prestige cars scrutinise the underside and the service history. A documented, protected underbody – with photos and a record – demonstrates how the car has been cared for and removes the biggest unknown in the deal. It supports the asking price and shortens the negotiation.
